چکیده

The core theory of behavior in economics, which structures inquiry and provides a framework for empirical analysis, is largely responsible for the success of the discipline. Behavioral economics (BE) challenges this theory but has failed to provide a coherent alternative. Consequently the influence of BE has been limited. In what follows we argue that evolutionary psychology (EP), suitably adapted, can provide at least a partial foundation for BE. Its methods offer a way of generating theories of the origins of anomalous behaviors and a way to test those theories.

Toward a neo-Darwinian synthesis of neoclassical and behavioral economics

There is a schism within economics between the neoclassical and behavioral schools. A primary cause of the behavioral ascent is the experimental evidence of deviations between actual behavior and the neoclassical prediction of behavior. While behavioral scholars have documented these “anomalies,” they have made little progress explaining the origin of such behavior. This paper proposes a biolog...

A crucial key to this is to understand that Herbert Simon was both the founder of explicitly modern behavioral economics as well as one of the early developers of complexity theory. Bounded rationality was essentially derived from Simon's view of the impossibility of full rationality on the part of ...
